The Grande école of multilingual and intercultural expertise takes a strong stance in favour of diversity in 2020-2021
Diversity from ISIT’s perspective
What is diversity?
As defined in the glossary of the Diversity in Companies Charter, diversity is “the condition of being varied and diverse. When applied to companies, it designates the range of human profiles that can be found within a company (with regards to country of origin, region, district, family name, culture, age, sex, physical appearance, disability, sexual orientation, level of qualification etc. – the list is non-exhaustive)”.
Equality, difference, diversity
This year ISIT has decided to take a strong stance in favour of a more inclusive society, one sporting all of the colours of diversity. Our chosen motto, summed up in three words, “equality, difference, diversity”, fits hand in glove with the identity and the mission upheld by ISIT for over 60 years. It is perhaps, therefore, not even that much of a coincidence that there is no “diversity” without the letters “ISIT”. More precisely, this means that at all levels within the school actions will be undertaken to encourage us to reflect upon our relationship with diversity. If necessary, this may require us to change our practices in favour of wider inclusiveness, more harmonious coexistence and a greater appreciation of how to enhance and constantly renew how we act both faced with and in the name of difference. It is this multidimensional approach that makes the academic mission of the school so unique. This also means that awareness will be raised amongst students and members of the teaching and administrative staff so that all concerned can become ambassadors of this vital cause. As a Grande Ecole specialising in interculturality, and as a school that works to serve the public interest, creating a more inclusive society – one which refuses uniformity and fully understands that differences constitute a major asset for a society and its organisations – is also a mission that ISIT has decided to make its own.
A poetic start to the year
From as early as their induction week, our students were invited to blend creativity with diversity during their induction workshop.
In groups, students were called upon to compose their own poems consisting of ten verses, along with a photo taken in Arcueil to accompany their “Dix Vers Cité(s)” (“Di-Verse-City”) creation. The aim of kicking off the year with this nice, creative event was also to foster a sense of belonging in students, enabling them to discover the local surroundings that are now their “home”.
